Bridging data and evidence for better health outcomes
The HDSS provides high-quality health and demographic surveillance data that supports the research methods and analysis of staff and students at Haramaya University. Graduate-level students and staff members use our data to produce research articles and projects that contribute to health interventions.
The HDSS provides a research platform for both observational and interventional studies that help the CHAMPS differentiate the study area and prevalence of under five age mortality rate. This helps CHAMPS collect, analyze, and share evidence to prevent child mortality in regions where it is highest.
HDSS data is instrumental for EPHI in improving health outcomes through informed decision-making, targeted interventions, and effective monitoring of health trends.
By providing comprehensive and reliable health information, HDSS data enables the Ministry of Health to assess the effectiveness of existing programs, identify areas for improvement, and develop targeted strategies that address specific health needs. This comprehensive approach ultimately promotes the health and well-being of society.
HDSS has a partnership with the Oromia and Harari regions. It collects and shares data from a network of three sites that encompass 40 catchment kebeles in Eastern Ethiopia. Our team at these locations works tirelessly to gather and disseminate this data.
HDSS is working in nine regions of Ethiopia, covering almost all areas.
