Haramaya University Strengthens Health Services and Research Initiatives

The Haramaya University Research Office conducted a visit to its research centers, highlighting the services provided by the university in the field of health. The visit included the College of Health and Medical Sciences which were reviewed by the university’s management team.


Dr. Yisak Yusuf, Vice President for Research and Community Engagement at Haramaya University, stated that the university is conducting extensive work in the health sector. He explained that the visit was organized to evaluate the achievements made so far and to identify areas that require further improvement.
Dr. Ahmed Mohammed, Chief Executive Director of the College of Health and Medical Sciences, noted that Hiwot Fana Hospital is the largest referral hospital in eastern Ethiopia, providing both specialist and subspecialist medical services to the community.
During the visit, Dr. Mohammed also explained that Haramaya University has been providing services for mentally disabled individuals.
Dr. Merga Deressa, Head of the Hararge Health and Demographic Surveillance System, stated that the university is assessing the overall health system performance in all areas under its demographic coverage, with particular emphasis on identifying and addressing health problems in the area.
