Refreshment Training for all Supervisors and Data Collectors

The HDSS training program was successfully conducted from November 6-7, 2025, at the Harar Campus, Haramaya campus and Kersa site site with the primary goal of enhancing data quality and addressing existing challenges in the HDSS system. The training brought together supervisors to refresh their knowledge on key processes, including Open HDSS and ODK data submission, household list updates, and questionnaire revisions. The program was facilitated by a team of experts: Gezahegn Mengesha led the introduction and discussions on data quality, while Teferi Mekonon addressed errors in HDSS data and shared insights from monitoring and evaluation. Barento, Gezahegn, Tadesse, Gamachu Asfaw and Mohammed Jemal collaborated on revising critical questionnaires, covering baseline surveys, death reporting, pregnancy observations, Family planning and child immunization. The session also included updates on migration tracking led by Aluwan, Barento and Teferi, followed by a review of the round-based household list by Gezahegn and Teferi. The day concluded with an open discussion where all participants shared feedback and challenges.

The training emphasized practical improvements in data collection and management, ensuring supervisors were well-equipped to implement changes in the next round of surveys. Key outcomes included a reinforced understanding of data quality control, streamlined processes for ODK data submission, and updated protocols for household tracking. The engagement of facilitators like Barento, Aluwan, Gamachu, Hinsene ensured comprehensive coverage of technical and operational topics. The interactive final session allowed teams to clarify doubts and align on best practices, fostering a collaborative approach to HDSS operations. Overall, the training achieved its objectives, leaving participants better prepared to maintain high-quality demographic and health surveillance data.
